Shielded Decay Container with Sliding Opening
The Lead Shielded Decay Container with sliding top opening provides robust radiation protection for production waste storage during decay periods. Featuring 50 mm of lead shielding on all sides and a horizontally sliding lid mechanism, this container delivers heavy shielding with practical access for radioisotope manufacturing operations.
Shielded Compartment Configurations
Shielded Decay Container SWB-E0031201 is available in multiple configurations, including the choice for multiple compartments and internal dimensions. See examples of various configurations in the image gallery below.

Product description
Shielded sliding lid for controlled access
The horizontally sliding lid provides smooth, controlled access to the container interior without the overhead clearance requirements of hinged or lifting lid designs. Operators slide the shielded lid open to load or retrieve materials, then return it to the closed position for continuous shielding coverage. A safety lock secures the sliding lid in the closed position, preventing unauthorized access and ensuring the lid remains closed during transport or storage. This locking mechanism supports facility security protocols and regulatory compliance for radioactive material storage.
Heavy 50mm lead shielding
The container provides 50 mm of lead shielding on all surfaces—walls, lid, and base—delivering substantial gamma attenuation for production waste with elevated activity levels. This shielding thickness suits facilities working with higher-activity waste streams or isotopes requiring greater attenuation than lighter-shielded alternatives provide. The uniform 50 mm thickness ensures consistent dose rate reduction regardless of source position within the container, simplifying radiation protection planning and eliminating geometry-dependent weak points.
Decontamination-ready coating
The exterior features the same two-component polyurethane epoxy coating proven across Nuclear Shields’ container range:
- Acid resistant — Withstands decontamination chemicals without degradation
- Shock resistant — Maintains coating integrity despite handling impacts
- Smooth finish — Non-porous white surface prevents contamination adhesion and enables thorough cleaning
The white finish provides excellent visibility for contamination monitoring and presents a clean, professional appearance in production environments.
Flexible handling options
The container includes provisions for both forklift and crane handling:
- Forklift shafts — Integrated into the bottom frame for standard forklift pickup and transport
- Crane lifting points — Enable overhead lifting for placement in elevated positions or loading onto transport vehicles
These handling features support initial positioning, routine relocation, and eventual removal when the container reaches end of service.
