Product description
Designed for operator mobility
Nuclear Shields engineered this container for manual transport by facility personnel. The wheeled base and ergonomic handlebar allow one person to move the loaded container across facility floors, through doorways, and between rooms. This mobility eliminates the need to coordinate forklift or crane operations for routine material transfers, streamlining workflows and reducing handling time. The robust caster wheels are rated for the container’s fully loaded weight and roll smoothly on typical facility floor surfaces. Wheel brakes lock the container in position during loading, unloading, and storage.
Lever-operated lid mechanism
A mechanical lever system enables easy opening of the heavy shielded lid without manual lifting. The operator pulls the lever to raise the lid, providing access to the container interior for loading or retrieving materials. This mechanism reduces physical strain and maintains consistent lid positioning throughout the opening cycle. The lever design keeps the operator’s hands away from the container opening during lid operation, supporting radiation protection principles by maximizing distance from the source during access.
Uniform 50mm lead shielding
The container provides 50 mm of lead shielding on all sides, ensuring consistent radiation attenuation regardless of source position within the cavity. This uniform shielding thickness delivers predictable dose rate reduction and eliminates weak points that could create elevated exposure areas. The cylindrical interior cavity measures 350 mm diameter × 500 mm height, accommodating a range of radioactive source containers, sample vessels, and waste packages used in nuclear medicine, research, and industrial applications.
Decontamination-ready coating
The exterior features a two-component polyurethane epoxy coating system specifically selected for nuclear facility environments:
- Acid resistant — Withstands common decontamination chemicals without degradation
- Shock resistant — Maintains coating integrity despite impacts during transport and handling
- Smooth finish — Non-porous surface prevents contamination ingress and enables thorough cleaning
This specialized coating supports ALARA principles by facilitating rapid decontamination between uses. The smooth, high-gloss finish also aids visual inspection for surface contamination during routine monitoring.
Compact footprint
With outside dimensions of 850 × 650 × 1056 mm (W × D × H), the mobile container fits through standard doorways and operates in confined spaces where larger shielded casks cannot maneuver. The vertical cylindrical design maximizes shielding volume while minimizing floor space requirements.
